Recyclable Materials in Waste Solar Panels

Waste solar panels are not ordinary garbage, but recyclable “urban mineral deposits”. Over 95% of materials in mainstream crystalline silicon modules can be recycled, with high practical and economic value.

1. Ultra-clear Glass (≈70%)
The front cover is low-iron, high-transmittance glass, which can be recycled and remade into new photovoltaic glass or architectural glass.
2. Aluminum Alloy Frame (≈18%)
The frame is high-purity aluminum, easy to dismantle and recycle. It can be remelted and reused for new PV frames and industrial aluminum products.
3. High-Purity Silicon (3%–5%)
Silicon wafers are the core material of solar cells. After recycling and purification, they can be reused to produce new photovoltaic cells.
4. Copper & Silver (Precious Metals)
Copper ribbons and silver electrodes contain valuable metals. Although the content is low, their recycling value is very high. Copper parts in junction boxes are also recyclable.
5. Plastic & Encapsulant Film
EVA film and backsheet plastics can be processed into recycled plastic particles, fuel oil or carbon black through pyrolysis and separation.

Formal recycling of waste solar panels turns waste into wealth, protects the environment, and creates a green, circular industrial chain for photovoltaics.
