Under the rapid development of modern electronic technology, the problem of waste disposal of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and integrated circuits (ICs), as core components of electronic devices, has become increasingly prominent. Every year, millions of tons of electronic waste are generated globally. Among these, PCBs and ICs pose significant challenges in recycling due to their content of precious metals, harmful substances, and complex structures. How to achieve efficient and environmentally friendly recycling is not only related to resource recycling but also an important part of human sustainable development. The recycling of PCBs and ICs is a multi-step, precise process. First, through manual sorting and mechanical disassembly, PCB and IC components are separated from discarded devices to avoid mixed contamination. Next, physical methods (such as crushing and sorting) and chemical methods (such as acid leaching and electrolysis) are used to extract precious metals like gold and silver, while reducing the harm of harmful substances like lead and mercury to the environment. Advanced biometallurgical technologies are also being explored, using microorganisms to degrade metals and further enhance the greenness of recycling. The significance of recycling goes far beyond economic value. Each ton of waste PCBs can extract hundreds of grams of gold, far exceeding the profits from gold mining. More importantly, it can significantly reduce the damage of electronic waste to soil, water, and ecosystems. By standardizing recycling, we not only save natural resources but also reduce carbon emissions and promote the practice of circular economy. As consumers and enterprises, we should actively participate in it. Choose formal recycling channels, support eco-certified electronic products, and advocate for extending the lifespan of devices to reduce waste at the source. Tech companies need to shoulder social responsibilities and develop easy-to-disassemble and recyclable designs to support green manufacturing. In the future, with the application of smart sorting, artificial intelligence, and automation technologies, the recycling of PCBs and ICs will become more efficient and precise. Let's act together to give electronic waste a new life and protect our planet home.
